 Blog #4 - Creation App Mini-Lesson

Hi and welcome to my fourth blog post of the semester!

Today we shared our implementation of including apps into our teaching with mini lessons that we shared with our peers in small groups. My group and I decided to use the app (and website) called Class Dojo. This app is a great tool for teachers, students, and parents to communicate and stay connected. It allows teachers to share updates, photos, and videos of classroom activities, while students can earn points for positive behaviour and achievements. It also has some great resources for emotional wellbeing in the classroom. Heres a link to the website: Class Dojo

Individual Lesson Reflection:

Technology is a great tool that opens a lot of doors within the classroom especially with engaging students and piquing their interests. In our mini lesson, we aimed to use multiple different aspects of technology such as Class Dojo, Canva Whiteboard, and YouTube for the read aloud. Though we had planned everything out in our lesson plan, we found ourselves struggling to get the technology working for some of the time. Since we only had around 10 minutes, the components of our plan felt scrambled and waiting for each application to open took up time and created anxiety. This was a good lesson to learn in the classroom with our peers because now I know for next time to have everything prepped and double checked. I think Class Dojo is a great website, but I wonder how engaging it was for my peers and if there could have been a better app to include for our lesson. A few classmates suggested better connection between the app and our lesson, so that is definitely something that we can improve for next time given that we have more time. Overall, I learned that while technology is a great tool, sometimes things do not go as planned, and that is okay! We learn from those mistakes and that is where our teaching develops the most!

Thanks for reading this weeks blog post.

  1. Nadia,
Technology is one of the greatest innovations that has made our job easier in many ways. However, there are those times when it crashes, that can impact a whole lesson we had planned. I agree that improvising on a whim is a skill we must quickly adopt as educators, and after our lesson, I think we're getting a pretty good hang of it! I wish for us to find more applications, like ClassDojo, that we can bring into the classroom to enhance student learning.

  2. Hello Nadia,

I really enjoyed reading about how you incorporated Class Dojo and other apps into your mini lesson. It’s great to see your openness to using technology in ways that engage both students and parents. I also appreciate your honest reflection on the challenges you faced and the lessons you learned about preparation. My one wish is that, for future lessons, you could explore ways to make sure the tech aligns even more closely with your objectives—it sounds like you’re already thinking in that direction, which is awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience!
